Community Resolution Teams (CRTs) work with law enforcement and juvenile probation to provide juveniles an alternative to arrest, court, probation or residentail detention. Juveniles referred to at CRT work with program volunteers and a mentor to help them understand the wrongs they have done and to take steps to make things right. A team of trained community volunteers conducts a conference that offers victims an opportunity to share with offenders and others the impact of their experience, and give offenders an opportunity to become accountable for their behavior, make resititution, and start anew. The process concludes with a mutually agreed upon contract with the offender, whose action will be supported by a mentor. Since 2005, the CRT program has conducted 45 conferences with a 95 % success rate, resulting in $6,000 paid in resitution and 600-plus hours of community service. |
