The Restorative School Practices (RSP) program brings restorative justice practices into schools as alternatives to the usual classroom management techniques of detention, suspension and expulsion. RSP brings the school and community into partnership providing alternatives that strive to keep students engaged in the school community. A circle discussion process is used to bring the offender together with the person harmed and other community members to share their experiences. Ultimately, an agreement is created that rebuilds the relationship between the offender, victim and community. Schools utilizing Community Resolution Circles for detentions have experienced a 40$ decrease in the number of students receiving detentions. |
